“give one the bird”不是“给某人一只鸟”

The general manager gave George the bird.
［误译］ 总经理把那只大鸟给了乔治。
［原意］ 总经理解雇了乔治。
［说明］ give one the bird 意为“解雇某人”、“奚落某人”、“给某人喝倒彩”、“给某人发嘘声”。
而get the bird则是“被解雇”、“被奚落”、“被喝倒彩”、“被（发嘘声）愚弄”。
例如，George got the bird because he was late for work（乔治因上班迟到而被辞退了）。
